The Nature of Nurturing

Supporting Survivors of Abuse

Session Objectives:

  • Recognize the psychological and physical disorders frequently seen in adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse
  • List common life events that trigger memories of childhood sexual abuse
  • Name specific behaviors in a pregnant or laboring client that may be associated with a history of sexual abuse
  • Develop skills that foster communication with clients dealing with difficult situations
  • Describe specific strategies that can be used to help the survivor cope with physical symptoms, flashbacks, fears, and body memories

In other words: You will increase your skills in supporting women who have survived traumatic experiences and help these clients develop specific strategies for the birth and postpartum period.
